Andaman in three nights or four: which one to book

30 July 20267 min read

There are really only two Andaman itineraries sold, and the choice between them comes down to one question: do you want to see Neil Island, or do you want to stop packing?

Three nights: Port Blair as a base

You stay in one hotel for the whole trip. Cellular Jail and the light and sound show on the first evening. Havelock as a day return by ferry for Radhanagar. North Bay and Ross Island as a second day out from the same jetty.

Four nights: Port Blair, Havelock, Neil

A night in Port Blair, two on Havelock, one on Neil. Havelock gets Radhanagar at sunset and Elephant Beach the next morning. Neil gets Bharatpur, Laxmanpur and the Natural Bridge if the tide has gone out far enough to reach it.

The ferries are the itinerary

Every Andaman plan is really a ferry timetable with sightseeing attached. What that means in practice:

The three-night trip is ₹19,500 per person and the four-night is ₹26,500, both including the hotels, the inter-island ferry tickets, a private vehicle for the sightseeing, the Cellular Jail entry and the light and sound show. Flights to Port Blair are not included and will usually be your largest single cost.

Small things worth knowing

Questions people actually ask

How many days do you need in the Andamans?
Four nights is the comfortable minimum for Port Blair, Havelock and Neil Island. Three nights based in Port Blair works if you are happy doing Havelock and North Bay as day trips and unpacking only once.
What does an Andaman trip cost?
Our three-night trip is ₹19,500 per person and the four-night is ₹26,500, including hotels, inter-island ferries, private sightseeing transport and the Cellular Jail entry and show. Flights to Port Blair are extra and are usually the biggest cost.
What is the best time to visit the Andamans?
November to April, when the sea is calm, the water is clear and the ferries run reliably. The monsoon from May to September brings rough crossings and frequent cancellations.
Do ferries between the Andaman islands get cancelled?
Yes, routinely, on weather and sea conditions. It is normal rather than exceptional. A good itinerary rearranges around it rather than dropping sightseeing, and you should leave a buffer before an onward flight.
Is Neil Island worth adding?
If it is your only visit, yes. It is markedly quieter than Havelock, and adding it also means Radhanagar Beach at sunset rather than a four-hour day trip that ends before the light is any good.
